If you run an office, a factory canteen or a hospital, you have probably had the tea conversation. Someone says it’s too weak, someone else says it’s too sweet, and the tea boy is off on the one day the boss has guests. That is usually when people start looking at tea premix and a vending machine.
This guide is for the person who has been asked to sort it out. We make tea and coffee premixes in Karachi, so we’ll tell you what we look at ourselves and what we would check if we were buying from someone else.
What tea premix actually is
Tea premix is a dry powder that already has the tea, the creaminess and (unless it is a sugar-free version) the sweetness blended in. All it needs is hot water. In a vending machine, the machine measures the powder, adds hot water, mixes it and pours. That is why every cup comes out the same, whoever presses the button.
It is not the same thing as the 3-in-1 sachets you buy at a shop. Premix for vending machines is made to dissolve quickly and fully inside a machine’s mixing bowl, and it comes in bulk packs instead of single servings.
The main types of tea premix in Pakistan
Most offices start with two flavours and add more once they see what people drink. These are the ones we get asked about most:
- Elaichi (cardamom) tea premix: the safe choice. Almost everyone likes it, and it is what guests usually pick.
- Karak tea premix: strong, dark and heavy, for the people who think regular tea is too light.
- Doodh patti premix: milky and smooth, closer to tea cooked in milk at home.
- Masala tea premix: spiced and warming, popular in winter and on night shifts.
- Kashmiri chai premix: the pink tea, good for guests and events.
- Ginger and black lemon tea: lighter options for people who want something different.
- Sugar-free elaichi: for staff who are cutting down on sugar.
How to judge a premix before you order in bulk
1. Ask about certification
ISO 9001 covers how a company manages quality, and ISO 22000 covers food safety management. They don’t tell you how the tea tastes, but they do tell you the maker has proper systems in place. Our premixes are produced under ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 22000:2018 certified systems, and any serious supplier should be able to tell you the same about theirs.
2. Test it in your own machine
A premix can taste fine in a cup and still cause trouble in a machine. Watch for lumps, powder left at the bottom of the cup, or residue building up in the mixing bowl. Run a few days of normal use before you commit to a large order.
3. Check the taste stays the same
The first pack is always good. What matters is whether the tenth one tastes the same. Ask the supplier how they keep batches consistent, and pay attention when you reorder.
4. Look at the packaging
Premix hates moisture. Packs should be properly sealed and easy to close again once opened. Ours come in 1 kg packs, which suits most machines and keeps refills simple.
5. Talk to the maker, not just a reseller
When something goes wrong, you want to speak to someone who knows how the premix is made. Buying from the manufacturer also tends to make supply more reliable when you need stock quickly.
Working out how much you need
You will see “cups per kg” figures online, but the real number depends on your cup size and how the machine is set. A better way is to start from your people: how many staff, how many cups each in a day, and how many working days in a month. Send us those three numbers and we’ll work out a sensible monthly quantity with you, so you are not overstocked or running out halfway through the month.
Storing premix properly
- Keep packs in a cool, dry place, away from the machine’s hot side and away from direct sun.
- Close opened packs tightly. Moisture causes lumps and changes the taste.
- Fill the machine canister with what will be used in the next few days rather than emptying a whole pack in at once.
- Clean the canisters and mixing bowls regularly. A clean machine makes a better cup.
Frequently asked questions
Is tea premix healthy?
It is tea with milk solids and, in most flavours, sugar, so treat it like any sweet tea and enjoy it in sensible amounts. If sugar is a concern, our sugar-free elaichi and sugar-free coffee are good options. We can share ingredient lists on request.
Can I use any premix in my vending machine?
Most tea and coffee vending machines that mix powder with hot water will take standard premix, but it is worth checking. Send us your machine model and we’ll confirm before you order.
Do you supply outside Karachi?
